Welcome to Accra

Accra is the dynamic capital of Ghana — a city that blends West Africa's rich cultural traditions with a fast-growing modern economy. Recognised as one of the continent's most stable and business-friendly cities, Accra offers a welcoming environment for international delegates, with world-class hotels, reliable transport links, and a vibrant hospitality culture.

Ghana is widely celebrated as one of Africa's most peaceful democracies, with English as its official language — making navigation, networking, and daily life straightforward for visitors from across the continent and beyond. Its warm climate, coastal charm, and historic sites make it an ideal destination to combine business with meaningful travel.

Visa & Passport

Visa requirements for Ghana vary by nationality. Many African Union member states and a growing number of other countries benefit from visa-free or visa-on-arrival access. All other travellers should apply for a visa in advance through the official Ghana Immigration Service portal.

We strongly recommend checking your specific nationality's requirements well in advance of travel, as processing times and eligibility can change.

Apply early. Visa processing can take between 5–15 working days depending on your country of application. We advise delegates to begin the process at least 3–4 weeks before the conference. Only use the official Ghana Immigration Service portal — third-party sites may charge inflated fees or cause delays. Delegates requiring an official invitation letter for visa purposes should contact us directly.

Health Advice for Travellers

Ghana is a safe destination for international travellers when standard health precautions are followed. A valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is a mandatory entry requirement — ensure yours is up to date before travelling.

Malaria is present in Ghana year-round, and anti-malarial prophylaxis is strongly recommended for all visitors. Consult your physician or a travel health clinic at least 4–6 weeks before departure to discuss the right prophylaxis for you.

Standard vaccinations recommended by most travel health authorities include hepatitis A and B, typhoid, tetanus-diphtheria, and polio boosters. Carry any personal prescription medication with you, along with insect repellent, sunscreen, and oral rehydration sachets.

Mandatory on Entry

Yellow Fever vaccination certificate — you will be asked to show this at the port of entry.

Malaria Prevention

Anti-malarial prophylaxis is strongly recommended. Begin course as advised by your doctor before travel.

What to Pack

Insect repellent, sunscreen (SPF 30+), personal prescription medication, and a small first-aid kit.

Currency in Ghana

The official currency of Ghana is the Ghanaian Cedi (GHS). Major hotels, restaurants, and conference facilities in Accra widely accept Visa and Mastercard. It is advisable to carry some local cash for markets, taxis, and smaller vendors.

USD is also widely accepted and exchangeable at competitive rates across the city. We recommend exchanging currency at the airport (Kotoka International Airport has multiple exchange bureaus), accredited banks, or licensed forex bureaus. Avoid informal street exchanges.
